The Club at LaTour, the first semi-private golf club to be developed in the New Orleans-area since Hurricane Katrina, is under construction and is expected to open in September. The 18-hole course in Mathews, La., is being built by area native John Brady, a general partner in The Club at LaTour and is being designed by former PGA Champion and Louisiana Tour Professional David Toms in association with Ken Morgan of Morgan Golf Design.
The course design is intended to appeal to golfers of all skill levels, with a mix of shot values. Its topography will include undulations and rolling hills, making it unique among Louisiana golf courses. “This course is a dream come true,” said Brady. “Golf is a big part of my life and to finally see our carefully laid plans come to fruition is very exciting.”
“From the beginning, we designed the course as a signature design,” Toms said. “It will have an abundance of movement on the fairways and each hole will be distinct and memorable.” He added, “It is an honor to be part of this project and contribute to the area’s recovery.”
New Leaf Management Inc. of Southwest Florida has been appointed to manage all aspects of The Club, including assisting in the course- and clubhouse-design process. According to Joey Garon, president of New Leaf Management, the company will hire from 75 to 100 people to run The Club at LaTour when it opens later this year. Future development plans for the 630-acre property include a commercial development and more than 500 housing units that will surround the golf course. Lots for purchase in phase one are scheduled to be released August 1. Club memberships are currently being accepted.
“We are very pleased to bring New Leaf on board during this early stage of developing what we envision will be one of the top 20 new golf courses in the nation in a beautiful gated community,” said Brady. “New Leaf takes a hands-on approach that’s backed by years of experience managing world-class clubs and other amenities. They are an excellent fit for the first-class club and property we are developing.”
“Our New Leaf team is excited to be part of The Club at LaTour,” said Garon. “John Brady is developing the course with the same care and respect for the environment that has been our company’s hallmark for many years. His vision of creating a premier golf course and community in this part of the country attracted us to this project from the very beginning.”
New Leaf was founded by and is the exclusive amenities management company for Bonita Bay Group. Amenities under management include Bonita Bay Group’s eight country clubs, 15 championship golf courses, three beach clubs, a beach park, five spas and fitness centers, four kayak and canoe parks, two marinas, 10 restaurants and six homeowners associations.
